Eye-popping beauty back in the day.
My grandmother, Ruth J. Wilson, was blessed with natural beauty. She parlayed her creamy complexion, high cheekbones, wide-set eyes and tall, slender frame into a career as a fashion model before settling down to raise a family. Her legacy eventually included two children, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
What I remember most about her appearance is the shape of her brows. They were softly rounded with low arches and cleverly enhanced her heart-shaped face. The style of her brows--and how she plucked them--served as my first beauty lesson.
It turns out she was way ahead of her time. We've since learned that in addition to defining the eyes, well shaped brows can complete your entire look. Here's how to pluck them based on the shape of your face.
Round: High arches to elongate the face.
Oval: A variety of shapes suit this type.
Heart: Rounder shapes help to soften the sharp angles of the face.
Long: Flatter and horizontal shapes make the face appear shorter.
Square: Curved or angled brows soften strong features.
Although these guidelines seem simple, many women have taken brow hair removal too far. As a result, thousands suffer from years of over tweezing or waxing.
